  • Naomi Jaffe on David Gilbert's "Love and Struggle"

Naomi Jaffe introduces the event "Weather Underground Meets Occupy Wall Street" on March 3, 2012 at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY. David Gilbert's new book, "Love and Struggle: My Life in SDS, the Weather Underground, and Beyond," sparks a dialogue about what social justice movements can learn from each other. Currently serving a 75 year to life sentence in the New York State prison system, Gilbert chose a political path--an Eagle Scout turned member of the Weather Underground. In other segments, a panel of today's young activists will talk with '60s revolutionaries about their common struggles, grounded by critical exchange and self-reflection. Panelists include Naomi Jaffe, Barbara Smith, Jeff Jones, Dan Lyles, Laura Travison, Victorio Reyes and special guest Larry White, co-founder of The New Jim Crow Movement to End Mass Incarceration.

  • Marco Calliari "Che La Vita"

Born in Italy but raised in Quebec, vocalist and guitarist Marco Calliari was a member of Montreal-based Anonymus for 15 years before setting out as a solo artist. Though the band had been an outlet for his love of hard rock and metal, his parents instilled a love for both opera and Italian pop, and he had also studied classical singing while in high school. Now he explores the music of the Italian diaspora with nods to flamenco, klezmer, ska and more! Recorded live at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY on March 10, 2012. www.mediasanctuary.tv www.marcocalliari.com

  • Sean Hemmerle at the Sanctuary

Artist talk about "Media Nodes" by photographer Sean Hemmerle recorded in the Underground Gallery at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Award-winning photographer Sean Hemmerle, in collaboration with the Columbia Journalism Review, took his camera into newsrooms around the country. "People throw around this word all the time, mostly disparagingly: 'oh, the media,' and 'media spin," he says. "That made me think: who is the media? And what about the media? I wanted to put a face on these media nodes, the places where news is 'made.'"
