CEO YouthBuild: Building Futures

Are you ready to rebuild your life?

A portrait of our neighbors at the CEO Youth Opportunity Center created by a video crew from the Youth Media Sanctuary program at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy NY.

YouthBuild is for young people ages 16 to 24 that have struggled or dropped out of school. The program helps these young people get their education and training in a career track. YouthBuild teaches job skills in construction, health care, child development or culinary arts. The program's goal is to help young people achieve education goals, learn new skills, and become successful community members. www.mediasanctuary.org www.ceo-cap.org/

Milk Not Jails Powerpoint

Milk Not Jails performs at the book launch for "Maroon the Implacable" by political prisoner Russell Maroon Shoatz on March 22, 2013 at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy NY. It was the opening night of a convergence called "Changing the Climate: (r)Evolution for social and environmental justice" organized by Ecosocialist Horizons. During the prison construction boom of the 1980s and 1990s, many economically depressed, rural towns hoped that prisons would jump start their local economies. New York's prison population has tripled since 1980 and a disproportionate number of those incarcerated are black and Latino folks from just a few New York City neighborhoods. Milk Not Jails is an economic alternative to the prison industry. They are a dairy marketing and distribution co-operative and they are a political campaign building an alliance for a sustainable and just regional economy. Milk Not Jails is building a regional economy that depends on bringing city residents local, healthy food, not locking them up. milknotjails.wordpress.com ecosocialisthorizons.com mediasanctuary.org
