Eliza Gilkyson & Rob Jensen "Unsustainable" (concert video 4/4)

The Sanctuary for Independent Media welcomed Austin, TX-based folk musician Eliza Gilkyson and activist Rob Jensen on November 16, 2008.

Gilkyson performed her songs, including some from her most recent album Beautiful World. Jensen offered his approach to a variety of topics such as economics and environmentalism, which he presents in his most recent book, All My Bones Shake: Seeking a Progressive Path to the Prophetic Voice.

The duo intertwined songs and speeches throughout the night to present a collection of beautiful music and radical discussion.

Part 4 of 4: In the final clip of their performance, Robert Jensen concludes his thoughts and brings Eliza Gilkyson back on stage for her song, "Unsustainable".

Colia Clark: "We Are Standing on Hallowed Ground"

In this video, Colia Clark recounts Troy's radical untold history of fierce abolitionism.

Civil rights activist Colia Clark speaking at the book launch for "Maroon the Implacable" by political prisoner Russell Maroon Shoatz on March 22, 2013 at The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy NY. It was the opening night of a convergence called "Changing the Climate: (r)Evolution for social and environmental justice" organized by Ecosocialist Horizons. Colia Clark is a long time activist and educator, and a veteran of the civil rights movement. Her work has included activism in the fields of women's rights and workers' rights, as well as activism and advocacy for homeless people and youth. She worked with the Cynthia McKinney for President campaign with "Power to the People." Clark is a chair of Grandmothers for the Release of Mumia Abu Jamal. During the Civil Rights era, Colia Clark was a Special Assistant to Medgar W. Evers, field Secretary for the NAACP. Clark later joined the Mississippi Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) doing voter registration work. Ms. Clark has recently been active in humanitarian relief efforts for Haiti.
